Tri County Football

28th Nov 2013

7-a-side Tri-County Football -   Tuesday 26th November

Dungannon Primary School Football Team participated in the Tri-County Schools Football Tournament.  This was the first of two sessions to take place.  Following on from the success of last year’s team, this year’s crop of young footballers were eager for their first taste of competitive football.

Dungannon P.S. 0:1 Windmill P.S.

This was a very nervy encounter between teams who met in last year’s semi-final.  Windmill gained revenge for the result that day following a late defensive mix up.  Very unlucky boys!

Dungannon P.S. 0:3 Howard P.S.

The boys were dejected following the late error in the previous game and a very organised side from the Howard ran riot with 3 well taken goals.  Work was needed to boost the confidence before the next game.

Dungannon P.S. 0:0 St. Patrick’s P.S.

There was a much better shape to this game and some wonderful link up play from our forward players.  We experimented with a back 3 which allowed our midfield and forwards greater license to play further forward in attack.

Dungannon P.S. 0:0 Cookstown P.S.  A

Another resolute performance followed against a particularly strong side.  Had we better luck in front of goal we could have snatched the win our passing play deserved.  It looks as though our young team are starting to find their feet.

Dungannon P.S. 2:0 Cookstown P.S.  B

Finally the break though in attack and as the cliché goes another soon followed.  There were two very well taken goals from Matthew who worked tirelessly throughout the tournament.  One a wonderful solo goal and the other assisted via an exquisite through ball by Joel.

The boys had an eye opening experience at this tournament but enjoyed themselves nonetheless.  The experience gained will be taken into the next session planned for January when we can look to make amends for our slow start today.  We can certainly take heart from how we picked ourselves up, reorganised and put in three strong performances to close out the day.  Thank you for your efforts today and at each training session.
