World Mother Language Day
On Friday 21st February, Dungannon Primary School celebrated World Mother Language Day. For a school with 13 languages spoken, the assembly hall was filled with songs, prayers and presentations to encapsulate the range of nationalities that the school is fortunate to facilitate the education for. As a Rights Respecting School, pupils have been learning about Article 30 published by the UNCRC which states that “every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their family, whether or not these are shared by the majority of people in the country in which they live”. It’s safe to say that the diverse population of pupils at Dungannon Primary School have the real privilege of learning and respecting each other’s culture on a daily basis and they will be more than equipped to live, learn and work in the increasingly globalised society in which they live in Northern Ireland.
