Digging for goodness...our P5 potato harvest.
16th Oct 2025
On Friday 14th March our P7 pupils planted two varieties of potato seeds in our 'Garden to Grow': These were Golden Wonder and Kerr's Pinks.
On Wednesday 1st October our P5 class used trowels to dig up two of the Golden Wonder potato plants. The stalks were wilted and had fallen over but underneath the soil we found 29 beautiful SPUDS! They were all different sizes...one of them was nearly the size of our heads whilst another was as small as a marble!
On Thursday 2nd October we washed and peeled the potatoes before steaming them over a pot of boiling water. We chopped some scallions and put them in a pot of milk to infuse.
We borrowed a gigantic potato masher from the school dinner ladies to mash the potatoes. We added the milk and scallions to make a thick creamy champ. A knob of butter and a pinch of salt finished off the dish. P5 pupils tucked in with a spoon and most people absolutely loved it...DELICIOUS!
