Science Experiment

14th Dec 2022

The children in P5 have been learning about teeth in Tudor Times.  They learned that sugar was introduced to Britain during the reign of Elizabeth I.  The rich people could afford sugar but this rotted their teeth, turning them black and caused a lot of pain.  The children then carried out a science experiment to find out which juices has the worst effect on our teeth.  We used an egg as the shell is similar to the enamel of our teeth.  Predictions were recorded and we ensured there was fair testing.  Eggs were placed in the same amount of apple juice, orange juice, cola, milk and cordial and observations carried out.  After 1 week it was discovered that cordial had the worst effect.

Fun fact: Poor Tudor people blackened their teeth with dirt to make themselves look rich!!
